More than words

What if writing your vows already brings you closer together? Before you even marry.

Take an evening or two together. Look back at everything you’ve already been through. Which moments have you both forgotten, and which ones do you still think about every week? Together you look at the past, the present and the future.

Not a dull questionnaire, but a game you play together. On one phone, with nothing to download.

Strong, challenging questions bring the memories back. Moments that changed and shaped you, and that only the two of you understand. That’s how you rediscover your story. And that story is the foundation for what you’re going to write.

By the end you’ve had more than a nice evening. You understand each other more deeply, and you may feel a little more in love. And you have everything you need to start on vows built on truth, love and understanding.

Because you don’t only discover what you want to promise. You also discover which promises your partner needs.

How it works

Stories first, then words, then promises.

You’re not hunting for beautiful words. First you discover what you actually want to say.

01

Stories

Play the card game together, one evening on one phone. Seven rounds of questions bring back the stories you’ve already lived. So you start with something real, not a blank page.

02

Words

Everything you typed during the game ends up in your vow notes: the moments you told and the words your partner used about you. So the words are already there before you start on your vows.

03

Promises

The short guide and its writing pages help you shape those words into promises: “When …, I will …, because …”. So you end up with vows you’re proud to say out loud.

The card game

Seven rounds to rediscover your story.

You take turns answering questions and sharing memories. Talk about what you’ve been through together and keep the best moments and thoughts along the way. Step by step, you discover what makes your story special.

What it’s really about

What is your wedding day really about?

I see it all the time: weeks and months go into the food, the cake and the venue. Endless discussions, sometimes even arguments, about who sits next to whom.

And meanwhile, what it’s really about slips out of view. You’re giving yourselves to each other, for the rest of your lives.

Let’s lay the foundation for your future together. Not just for a nice evening.

Everything to get started

What you get

One purchase for both of you. Available online straight away.

Book page 26: chapter 5, The formula.
The facing page: When a specific moment, I will a specific behaviour, because what it protects.

The book and workbook (PDF)

70 pages. About an hour to read, fifteen minutes to write. Short enough to read in one sitting. It explains why most vows stop helping within a week, and what to write instead. At the back there’s a small workbook too, for when you’d like a little extra help.

A question card from round 1 of the card game: Find the oldest photo of the two of you on your phone. Bring that day back.

The seven-round card game

An evening or two, one phone, and just as much to tell for each of you. The game takes you past memories, special moments, challenges and dreams for the future. From light questions that make you smile to deeper conversations you may never have had before. Pass the phone back and forth, take your time and discover how much there still is to tell. There’s nothing to download, and you can pause after any round and carry on later.

Your story, gathered in one place.

The best memories, the words your partner said about you and the moments you shared. Everything that came up during the game is gathered in your vow notes. A valuable foundation for writing your own vows. After the game you have seven promises to start from.

A simple shape for your vows

You get one sentence as a shape to pour every promise into: When [this happens] → I will [do this] → because [this is what it protects].

From the book

When a specific moment, I will a specific behaviour, because what it protects.

What our test couples say

Translated from Dutch. From couples who tested Vows That Last before launch.

“It’s the kind of book you didn’t know you needed.”

E&T, about the book

“It’s not just ‘a game with questions’. It’s much more. … Some questions made us think about our relationship in a different way. And it’s not only about the nice things, but also about how you deal with harder times and how you see your future together.”

M&L

“We already notice how much the game helps us communicate better. We talk a lot anyway, but it makes us think in a different way, and sometimes we discover new things about each other.”

S&J, getting married in April 2027

“The book helps turn the conversations from the game into a good vow. You often hear beautiful words at a ceremony, but hardly anything of it stays with you afterwards.”

Questions & answers

Is the book printed?

No. The book is a PDF. You can read it on screen or print it at home. The card game runs in your phone’s browser, so there’s nothing to install.

My partner isn’t a writer. Will they actually do this?

Yes. You don’t need to be a writer to take part. The card game starts with questions about things that have happened in your relationship. You’re remembering, talking, and discovering stories together, not trying to write beautiful sentences on the spot. The book then gives you practical tools to turn those stories into vows.

Will my partner see what I write?

Your answers in the game, yes: you play on one phone and talk them through together, and your vow notes show what the other said about you. Your vows, no: each of you writes your own, and you can keep them a surprise until the ceremony.

Our wedding is soon. Is there enough time?

If you have a couple of evenings or weekends, you can make a start. You can play the game in one evening or spread it across several. You don’t need to complete everything in one sitting.

We’ve already started writing. Is it too late?

Not at all. The game can help you uncover memories and details you haven’t included yet. The book gives you tools to sharpen what you already have, make your promises more specific, and decide which lines belong in your final vows.

We’re already married. Does it work for a vow renewal?

Yes. The game is about the life you’ve already shared, and after years together there’s simply more to draw from: the times you showed up, what you came through, and what you want to promise for the years ahead. A few questions are written for couples who are about to marry. You can pass on any card that doesn’t fit.

Is it therapy?

No. It’s a practical tool for couples preparing their wedding vows. It doesn’t replace couples therapy or professional relationship support.

Is it safe to use if we argue?

The game is designed for couples who feel safe talking openly with each other. You can pass on any question. If your relationship involves fear, control, or harm, don’t use the cards as a way to address that situation. Prioritise your safety and seek support from an appropriate local service.

Who is it for? This is not for couples who are just dating. Vows That Last is made for people who are actually getting married, because it goes deeper than most couples expect. We’re not therapists, and we can’t fix a relationship. But from the feedback we’ve had so far, we’ve seen powerful things come up when couples play it. If you’re about to say your vows, that’s exactly what you want.

Your story deserves words

Don’t start with a blank page.
Start with each other.

Play, remember, discover and write vows that are truly yours.
